The UAE and, to an even greater extent, Oman are both packed with some amazing and fascinating hiking routes that will be quite unlike anything that you’ve experienced anywhere else. There are literally hundreds of places that you can hike – check out the areas covered in the off-roading, mountain biking and camping sections for starters – however, there are certain routes and areas that are especially worth trying.

And remember, if you’re not going with an experienced guide, you should always carry a GPS with your starting point firmly logged; trails are rarely marked clearly and, although a route may seem obvious on the way out, as weather conditions alter and the angle of shadows change, it can be easy to misread the land and get lost.
