This is one of Abu Dhabi’s most buoyant retail sectors; most tastes are catered for, from everyone’s favourite Swedish flatpack store to unique ethnic pieces, and the latest designer concepts as well as specialist children’s furniture stores.

Second-hand bargain hunters can either pay a visit to Nefertiti’s warehouse on the Corniche at Khaleej Al Arabi St or peruse the offerings online. There are plenty of deals to be found in the classified sections of newspapers or on supermarket noticeboards. For something completely different, head to the warehouse stores in Sharjah. The hot, dusty warehouses are not the choicest of options, but prices are excellent and after a good polish the furniture looks fabulous.
