Jewellery
For adventurous jewellery shoppers, there is plenty to choose from, such as silver jewellery from Oman, cultured pearls from Japan, and ethnic creations from India crafted in rich yellow gold. The Gold Souk in Madinat Zayed on 4th Street has many jewellers including some of the largest jewellery shops in the Gulf and the outlets in this area cater for all tastes. You can browse a host of different outlets and you might be able to haggle down a real bargain.
When it comes to watches, there is also plenty of choice. You’ll get plastic cheapies for no more than a few dirhams, diamond-encrusted designer timepieces coming in at over Dhs.100,000 (head to The Galleria at Sowwah Square or The Avenue @ Etihad Towers for some of the most high-end designer names), and everything in between. Check out the souks – not only will you find all the brands you know, plus some you don’t, but you’ll have fun haggling with the colourful shop owners – the Hamdan Centre is a good place to start.
