Perfumes & Cosmetics

Perfumes and cosmetics are big business here, from the local scents like frankincense and oud, to the latest designer offerings. Local scents tend to be strong and spicy – you can often locate the stores by the smell of the incense they burn in their doorways. Oman-based Amouage in Marina Mall even sells what they describe as ‘the world’s most expensive perfumes’ if you fancy ‘splashing’ out. Department stores and local chains such as Areej and Paris Gallery are located in most of the larger malls and they stock comprehensive ranges of international brand perfumes and cosmetics. There are no sales taxes, so there is rarely a difference between duty free and shopping mall prices.

Larger hypermarkets, supermarkets and pharmacies stock skincare products and some make-up.

Anti-allergenic ranges are available at many of the larger pharmacies. Most needs are covered but if yours aren’t, specialist retailers often have online shopping facilities or you may find products available at your local beauty clinic. Glambox.me has an online cosmetics store.
