Second-Hand

The fairly transitory nature of much of the population results in an active second-hand market. If you are looking to buy or sell second-hand goods, the supermarket noticeboards and the classifieds sections in newspapers are a good place to start. There are also several community websites with classifieds sections – try dubizzle.com, abudhabiwoman.com, expatwoman.com, souq.com and websouq.com.

In most cases you will have to arrange for the items you buy to be transported – head down to the car park next to the Central Post Office in Madinat Zayed, and negotiate with the drivers there for the use of a small truck. The price should include a driver and a few men to help you carry larger items. If you are selling second-hand goods, a number of the local second-hand shops will come to your home and give you a quote (usually way below the purchase price, so be prepared to haggle).
