Breakfast Hotspots in Dubai

Date: 2014-12-09
These restaurants will ensure that your tummy is well set-up for the day ahead. Here’s our pick of the best places to have breakfast in Dubai.

St Tropez Bistro
For seriously good croissants (including a never-before-tasted aromatic innovation), superb frothy coffees, perfectly gooey eggs (Benedict, Florentine and every other form an egg can take), French toast, muffins, Croque Monsieurs, and fresh juices, St Tropez Bistro can’t be beaten. It’s tucked away in a discrete corner of Mall of the Emirates, near the ski slope, and feels like a bona fide French cafe, thankfully shielded from the throngs of gawping shoppers who trample past other mall eateries. It’s well lit, and decked out in cream with exposed bricks and movie star photos on the walls. Service is there when you need it; staff are informative, intelligent and knowledgeable about the food. Put aside an hour more than you think you’ll need, and leave room for a double helping of croissants.
When: 8am-12pm daily
Price: Cooked breakfast and drinks for two approximately Dhs.110
Mall of the Emirates

SoHo Grill
The SoHo Grill steakhouse recently launched a breakfast menu including homemade waffles and pancakes, steak and eggs, and their signature Brooklyn Bread Boats (think stuffed-crust cheesy breakfast pizza). There’s a zingy collection of mocktails – we tried the Sweet Sun Sing, with litchi, apple, lemon and lime – great for a morning citrus burst. Eggs Benedict rate pretty high up on the Explorer Official Egg-Rating Scale, and this version comes with crispy bacon too. If you want to be healthier, choose a smoothie or juice, or eschew healthiness and elevate your calorie intake with a milkshake or float. Service is very good, decor is urban industrial and funky, and the outside terrace is pleasant (the music covers the sound of Sheikh Zayed Road somewhat). Top tip: they do bagels.
When: 7am-12pm daily
Price: Cooked breakfast and drinks for two approximately Dhs.110
Sheikh Zayed Road, next to DIFC and Dusit Thani hotel

Le Paradis du Fruit
The funky fruity elaborate lampshades and pleasant outdoor terrace looking onto Zen-inspired water feature make this venue an appealing place to dine. There are traditional French pastries, French toast and crepes as well as ‘continental’, ‘healthy’ and ‘Paradis’ set breakfasts, plus an al a carte menu. Tasty surprises that will please healthy eaters include homemade yogurt and a Carpaccio of fruits with goji berries. We tried the omelette with added cheese, herbs and salmon, served with spinach, mushroom, potatoes and baked tomato. The food was well cooked and the freshly baked mini baguettes that came with it were irresistible. No complaints about the fresh juice or the frothy Cappuccino either, and service was attentive. There’s also free wifi.
The menu is varied, but will expand in January 2015 to include poshed-up dishes such as eggs Benedict with truffle oil and food with more of a French influence.
When: A la carte breakfasts: 8.30am-4pm weekends; 11am-12pm weekdays
Price: Cooked breakfast and drinks for two is approximately Dhs.200. Set breakfasts start at Dhs.49
The Beach, JBR

Maison Bagatelle
This fresh, vibrant and sophisticated cafe sits in an easily accessible spot next to The Address Downtown hotel. Patrons queue to enjoy its scrumptious menu and lively atmosphere. An added bonus is the cafe’s own valet parking. Breakfast is straight out of Paris, with crepes, pancakes, Nutella French toast and an ample Viennoiserie on offer. There are cooked breakfasts too, with the salmon eggs Benedict served with perfectly cooked cubed fried potatoes, gaining some serious points for deliciousness. You should also dip into the specialised coffee menu – we tried the Ethiopian Harrar with a pleasing berry and chocolate finish.
When: 9am-12pm daily
Price: Cooked breakfast and drinks for two approximately Dhs.140
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai (next to Souk Al Bahar parking), Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall

Fraiche
A modern, light and airy bistro café serving tasty and appetising breakfast favourites in a welcoming atmosphere. Also open for evening meals, and, a great spot to crack out the laptop and make use of the wifi. Diners enjoy views over JLT’s lake, and the terrace occupies a top spot overlooking a green, leafy area, and boasts its own fresh herb garden. Personally recommended by the owner, the eggs Benedict come with pastrami, and the omelettes are light and fluffy and served with salad, golden potato wedges, the tastiest grilled mushrooms we’ve ever come across, and juicy grilled tomatoes.
Price: Cooked breakfast and drinks for two approximately Dhs.110
When: 8am-11.30am weekdays; 8am-4pm weekends
JLT. Swiss Tower, Y Cluster
