Football

Football (or soccer for any American expats) is, as in most of the rest of the world, the most popular sport in the United Arab Emirates and it enjoys a large number of spectators as well as plentiful players. During the evenings and at weekends, parks, beaches and any open areas seem to attract a game, generally with a mix of nationalities taking part.

However, you could also leave the street football behind and join The Club’s Monday Soccer group, which runs, unsurprisingly, on Monday evenings and is open to men and women (members only). Alternatively, you could try one of the clubs listed below. There's a football field at Abu Dhabi Country Club and Zayed Sports City boasts 14 multi-purpose pitches in full and half sizes, all with floodlights for nightime playing If you’d rather watch than play, the UAE’s national league has regular fixtures at the Al Jazira and Al Wahda stadiums in town.
