South-West: Wilmersdorf, Grunewald & Zehlendorf
Travelling west from the city centre, it doesn’t take long before the landscape turns decidedly rural. Here, there’s more area given up to greenery than to buildings, though the seasonal changing of the leaves makes this part of town particularly worth visiting in autumn. The many rivers and lakes make this the go-to spot in the heat of summer, too. This is particularly true of Wilmersdorf, which is almost completely covered by the large pine forest known as Grunewald. Nearby Zehlendorf offers a peek at German high society, past and present, and the cluster of museums at Dahlem and the lakeside areas at Wannsee offers plenty of history along with idyllic recreation.
