Tiergarten

Much of Tiergarten is unlivable, but that’s hardly a bad thing – unless you want to live in the zoo or elegant park that goes by the same name, and runs the entire length of the borough. A lot of the area is taken up by government showpieces, such as the Reichstag, the shopping entertainment complex at Potsdamer Platz and the clusters of cultural institutions nearby. The people that do call Tiergarten home usually reside to the north and west, in Moabit and the Hansaviertel. Thanks to the redistricting madness of 2001, the once-independent borough is now lumped together with Wilmersdorf into a single unit. Administered by the British during the post-war period, Tiergarten gives off a rather staid impression and once the clock spins into the late hours, your entertainment options will probably lie elsewhere.
