In The Event Of A Death

If a member of your family or a friend dies in Malaysia, you should notify the authorities as soon as possible. If the death occurs in hospital, the staff will help you through the procedures required to get a death certificate from a doctor and register the death with the Malaysian National Registration Department (NRD). If the death is sudden, you should contact your embassy immediately for advice on how to proceed. All deaths in Malaysia which happen outside hospital must be reported to the police regardless of whether the death is sudden or expected. In all cases of sudden death there will have to be a post mortem. This is a police requirement and is compulsory regardless of nationality and whether there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
