The secondary schools – Northcote College, Birkenhead College and Glenfield College – have a reputation for being rougher than those on the more expensive side of The Shore, but the Education Review Office seems happy with them. There is a Catholic primary school in Northcote, a Christian school in Glenfield and a special school in Wairau Valley. Some areas are in the zones for well-regarded Ponsonby primary schools.
