Onewa Road, which leads onto the motorway in Northcote, has a reputation as one of the worst arterials in Auckland. The best way to commute to the city is by ferry from Northcote Point or Birkenhead Point. By bus it’s a quick trip from Highbury and Northcote, but if you live in the outer suburbs it can be a long haul. Northcote Point is 8km from the city centre, Beach Haven is 14km. Most residents have cars.
