Furniture Shopping

If you are a new arrival in Oman and moving into a new home, chances are that you will need to buy some furniture. Most properties are unfurnished, and that means not only will you have no furniture, but in most cases you will have no electrical items or white goods either (not even a cooker), and not all villas have fitted wardrobes.

Oman is home to several big furniture shops so no matter what your tastes are, you’ll find something you like. A lot of furniture is locally or regionally made, and is often extremely ornate. Simpler styles can be found in ID Design (Markaz Al Bahja) and Home Centre (Centrepoint). The world-famous Swedish furniture store IKEA is just a few hours down the road in Dubai, so you can load your car up with flat-pack furniture.

Second-Hand Furniture

The population of Muscat is fairly transitory, with people coming and going all the time. As a result there is quite a busy second-hand furniture market, so keep your eyes on the supermarket noticeboards. Look out also for adverts for local garage sales, where families will sell all the stuff they are not taking with them at rock-bottom prices.
