Local Currency
The local currency is the Singapore dollar, which is usually referred to by just the dollar sign, or by S$ or SG$. Its full international currency code is SGD. Notes come in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $50, $100, $500, $1000 and $10,000, with coins in 1 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent and $1 denominations. New polymer $2 and $10 notes are now in circulation and the $1 coin is replacing the $1 note, which is fast disappearing. The $20 note was discontinued in 1984 though a few may still be in circulation. The Singapore dollar is pegged to the Brunei dollar and the Currency Interchangeability Agreement between the two countries allows for the currency notes of one country to be used in the other.
