Money Exchanges

Singapore has numerous independent money exchanges, also know locally as money changers. They must be licenced and operate from a registered location. Tiny booths can be found in many malls and shopping complexes popular with tourists, and there’s usually more than one. The bulk of them are concentrated in the CBD – around Orchard Road and the Shenton Way area – though some suburbs and housing estates also have them, and their rates are comparable to the ones downtown. Exchange rates at a money changer are invariably better than at a bank or hotel, plus they handle a wider range of currencies. They follow the same operating hours as the building they’re located in, usually from 10:00 to 18:00 for an office building or until 21:00 if it is a shopping centre. Do not change money with someone who walks up to you on the street – it’ll be a con.
