University Entrance Requirements
Universities in Japan will admit you to an undergraduate programme if you have completed 12 years of primary and secondary education. If you haven’t done so but have passed the International Baccalaureate or Abitur and are over 18, you can still be admitted. Students with neither of these qualifications can undertake MEXT’s college preparatory course (www.mext.go.jp). Admission to a post-graduate course requires 16 years of education. For more information on applying for a student visa, visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website (www.mofa.go.jp).
In order to enrol in a university, you will need:
• A valid passport
• A certificate of admission from your university
• Proof that you can pay all living and educational costs while in Japan
