Health Centres & Clinics

Tokyo has a selection of clinics for foreigners, with both foreign doctors and doctors who speak English on the medical team. A visit to one of these is a much less stressful experience than visiting a local hospital, and most have a comprehensive set of services covering general health checks, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, STD screenings, immunisations, paediatrics, ear, nose and throat problems, and minor surgery.

You need to make an appointment before visiting a clinic and at most places appointment fees are around ¥8,000 to ¥10,000, with any additional tests, such as X-rays and blood tests, costing extra. Fees are typically paid at the time of the appointment, but some allow invoicing monthly. The new kid on the block, the Tokyo Midtown Medical Center is leading the way when it comes to providing an international standard of policies and procedures, and it is worth visiting their website to see if they can meet your needs before going.
