Highlights

From the turquoise blue waters and sandy beaches along the Arabian Gulf to the rolling sand dunes of the desert and mangrove forests on the north coast, Qatar is an enchanting destination of natural beauty. Known as the ‘Thumb of Arabia’, the stunning country is also rapidly developing as a stylish getaway for a weekend of escape and discovery.

East coast
On the east coast of this small Arab nation is Doha – a dazzling capital city that fuses traditional culture and highly modern man-made treasures.

It’s a city of the moment, with futuristic skyscrapers, trendy shopping malls and designer restaurants all competing to transform the skyline. However, many of this ultramodern city’s biggest attractions are rooted in tradition: to get the most out of Doha, you need to explore the plethora of art galleries, heritage villages, souks and traditional forts that celebrate the history and heritage of this former fishing and pearl-diving village. The famous Singing Sand Dunes and Al Wajbah Fort are popular cultural attractions that are well worth visiting.

Away from the city, the Inland Sea (Khor Al Udaid) in the south of the country makes a great day trip, while Mesaieed, Al Khor, Dukhan, Al Wakra and Al Shamal are perfect for outdoor adventures such as dune safaris, horse riding and camping. Tourism in these areas is still in its infancy, but the desert landscape is yours to explore.
