The undertaker will help you to make arrangements to return the deceased home or to bury them in the Netherlands. If you choose to transport the deceased home the undertaker will apply for a ‘lijkanpass’ from the town hall; you will also have to contact the embassy of the country you wish to return the body to. You will need a copy of the birth certificate, a copy of the death certificate and may need to pay a fee for a certificate from the embassy. Costs for bringing the deceased home average between €6,000 and €8,000.
