Driving Licence
In the Netherlands you will have to be able to drive on the right side of the road, so be prepared if you’re used to driving on the left. Rules for which licences are valid and how they can be exchanged in the Netherlands vary, so check carefully to ensure you don’t get caught out. In the Netherlands you will incur high fines if you break any road rules. If you are not wearing your seatbelt you will be fined €75; penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol depend on how far over the limit you are (the limit is 0.5/ml) but you could get your licence suspended immediately. You must have your licence with you at all times - failure to show your licence incurs a fine of €50. If you are driving a vehicle not specified on your licence you will be fined €190. Similarly high fines apply to speeding as well, so be careful because there are cameras everywhere!
