Other Countries
You can drive on your own licence in the Netherlands for a period of six months, after which time you will have to take a theory test and a road driving test to obtain a Dutch licence. You can only do this if you are a Dutch resident and have a valid residence permit. This applies for international driving licences as well, as they are only translations of your original national licence.
The following territories are able to exchange their original licences as long as the applicant has a Dutch residence permit: Aruba, Monaco, Isle of Man, Netherlands Antilles, Jersey and Switzerland. Licences from these other countries (below) can also be exchanged for a Dutch driving licence if you have a residence permit and your home country licence allows you to drive a passenger vehicle: Taiwan, Israel, Japan and South Korea. Your licence must be valid at the time of the exchange and must have been issued during a year where you lived at least 185 days in the country of issue. See www.rijbewijs.nl for more information.
