Cosmetic Treatment & Surgery
Spaniards have more cosmetic surgery than any other Europeans, with 400,000 operations last year, at an average price of €2,000. According to the Spanish news agency EFE, some 20% are men, who mainly seek abdominal surgery and liposuction. The number one operation for women is breast enlargement followed by liposuction, then rhinoplasty (nose jobs).
This national enthusiasm is clearly reflected in the 120 or so cosmetic surgery (cirugía estética) centres and clinics across Barcelona, offering general plastic and cosmetic surgery. Non-surgical treatments include cosmetic dermatology (rehydration), cosmetic medicine (i.e. botox) and laser treatment for wrinkles, tattoos and birthmarks.
The following clinics host surgeons recognised by the Sociedad Española de Cirugía Plástica, Reparadora y Estética. See its web site for more information on the surgeons and their specialist areas (www.secpre.org).
