Giving Up Smoking

If your Spanish is good, a free helpline has been launched by local authorities (90 211 14 44), offering free advice and evaluations.

Advice or therapy programmes are still relatively new in the public health system, but huge progress has been made since the Spain-wide anti-tobacco law of 2006 banned smoking in restaurants. Two-thirds of all Catalonia’s public health centres (CAPs) now offer help to those wanting to quit. This comes in the form of eight sessions over three-months. Continuing appointments are dependent on meeting targets, and in some cases referrals will be made for group therapy. For those who do not have the public health option, the best option would be to sign up for paid sessions on the advice of your private GP. See also Alternative Therapies and Support Groups.
