CBD

Beijing’s Central Business District (CBD) lies in the south-east of the city, and runs between Chaoyang Beilu in the north and Tonghui River in the south. It borders Xidawang Lu to the east, and reaches Dongdaqiao Lu to the west. The vast north to south axis of the Third Ring Road cuts the area in two.

Investment has been pouring into the CBD since it was demarcated in 2000, and vast development has followed. The area is characterised by hotels, high-end shopping malls, designer department stores and swish bars and restaurants. Landmarks include the New CCTV Tower, China World Trade Towers, The Place, The Kerry Centre, Jianwai SOHO and New SOHO. Accommodation tends to be apartments in high-rise, modern developments. Notable residential areas are the complexes near Ritan Park and Jianguomen in the west and the clusters of high-rise buildings around New SOHO.
