Most places offer after school programmes, with activities ranging from sport to music to art. Participation is compulsory at some schools (like Harrow International). Beijing has many sport clubs, including ClubFootball (10 6417 0495, www.clubfootball.com.cn), which offers football coaching at schools around town, and Sports Beijing (10 6430 1412, www.sportsbj.com) which offers baseball, cheerleading, dance, rugby, tennis and water polo.

The Dulwich College Community Programmes offer a range of activities open to the public, including art, baking, drama, and languages. Boy Scouts of America (www.troop943.com) and Girl Scouts (bjgsinfo@yahoo.com) are active here. Art classes are offered at Kids’ Gallery (10 8046 1454, www.kidsgallery.com).
