General Medical Care
China lacks a traditional government healthcare system. However, many citizens are covered, at least in part, under their employer’s health insurance. Healthcare costs are kept low, and the system is reasonably effective at treating enormous numbers of people. There are public hospitals and clinics throughout the city, which can be intimidating. Two well-regarded options are the China-Japan Friendship Hospital and the Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Prices can start as low as ¥20 for some basic services, though VIP services cost from ¥100 to ¥300 and more.
