Cosmetic Treatment & Surgery

Cosmetic surgery (zhengrong) has become extremely popular in Beijing. Especially common are double-eyelid surgeries, liposuction, wrinkle removal, leg stretching and breast augmentation procedures. More than a million Chinese people a year have some form of cosmetic surgery, making it the world’s second-largest market.

Newspapers and television programmes have shown stories of shoddy treatment and botched operations so make sure that you ask questions, investigate your chosen clinic and doctor, and look through their history before jumping on the operating table.

Prices are fairly low (relative to western standards) for most procedures and service is consistently good, with many English-speaking doctors available. For those who want something a little less invasive, Botox and other non-surgical methods are also on offer. Hair implants and hair regrowth treatments are available at many clinics.
