Opticians & Ophthalmologists

Eye care is inexpensive and easy to find. Most neighbourhoods will have a small optician that can handle frames, lenses and contacts. Prices start from ¥150. Most opticians can also do prescription sunglasses.

Laser eye surgery is a booming industry in China, and larger clinics and hospitals can do these procedures, as well as general optometry. Fees can be as little as ¥5,000 to as much as ¥20,000, depending on the type of surgery. For other, more serious, eye care needs, ophthalmologists are also available at larger medical facilities. As always, check with your insurance provider to see what they cover. Driving licences only require a short eye exam at the testing bureau.
