Yoga is a 5,000 year-old practice of Indian stretching that brings muscle tone and flexibility to the body. There are many different types of yoga, all of which are well represented in Berlin. In fact, of all of the health practices available in the city, yoga is the most popular. If you are a complete beginner, it’s probably best to try a gentle hatha class (this can be either iyengar or its more rigorous alternative ashtanga), rather than the more taxing Bikram or hot yoga. Many teachers are non-English speakers, meaning you get to learn the German words for body parts as an added bonus. The average price of a yoga class is €12, and a lot of studios offer free or reduced price first trial classes, known as Probekurs.
