Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)

Originally set up as a programme for foreign retirees and fetchingly called the ‘Silver Hair’ programme, Malaysia My Second Home (usually shortened to MM2H), is open to expatriates of any age who meet the following capital and income requirements:

• Those aged below 50 need to provide a fixed deposit of RM300,000 in a Malaysian account. After one year, up to RM240,000 may be withdrawn to pay for approved expenses but the balance of
  RM60,000 must remain in the account for the duration of your stay in Malaysia.
• Those aged 50 and above have the option to provide a fixed deposit of RM150,000. After one year RM90,000 can be withdrawn for approved expenses leaving a minimum balance of RM60,000 or, they
  can provide proof of an offshore income (e.g. pension) of at least RM10,000 per month.
• All applicants and their spouses/dependent children must produce a medical report from a private hospital or approved clinic in Malaysia and show proof that they hold valid medical insurance.

Participants in MM2H are issued with a 10 year renewable visa. They are not allowed to work in Malaysia, but may remit offshore income to Malaysia for instance from consultancy work or from an overseas business. More information about MM2H can be found on the website www.mm2h.gov.my.
