Metro
The Red Car trolley lines vanished in the early 60s, but by the 1970s there were calls to create another form of mass transit other than the bus system. The first light rail borne of that campaign opened in 1990, and currently there are six lines of light rail, subway and Bus Rapid Transport (BRT). Beginning in Downtown and working outwards, the subway consists of two lines: the Red line, which runs between Downtown and North Hollywood, and the Purple line, which runs between Downtown and Koreatown. Connected to the subway lines are the Orange BRT line, running from North Hollywood into the Valley and ending at Warner Center; the Gold light rail line, running east to Pasadena; and the Blue light rail line, running south towards Long Beach. There is also the Green light rail line, which runs east-west from Redondo to Norwalk and bisects the Blue line. There are endless calls for an expansion of the subway system to the Westside, and after years of wrangling, ground was finally broken on an Exposition line of light rail, which will finally bring rail service to those in Culver City and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
