Train
For those travelling farther afield, Los Angeles does provide access to intercity Metrolink trains and to Amtrak, the national passenger train company. These, as well as the subway and many bus lines, can be accessed at LA’s historic Union Station. Located in the heart of Downtown, Union Station is a beautiful building, with elements of Dutch revival, mission revival and streamline moderne styles. Surrounded by gardens, it was once a bustling hub for the entire area, although now some of the rooms are shuttered. These days, travellers wishing to use the Metrolink regional system can find buses and rail lines to Orange County, Riverside and Antelope Valley, among others. Union Station is also the only place in the city to get direct rail service to Burbank Airport, as well as the FlyAway Bus service to LAX. Amtrak provides long-distance services both within California and towards the rest of the country, via Chicago and New Orleans. More information on Union Station and train and bus routes and schedules can be found at www.mta.net, www.metrolinktrains.com and www.amtrak.com.
