Although cars dominate the road, it is not uncommon to see motorbikes and scooters zipping through traffic in LA. Generally speaking, all traffic rules apply equally to cars and motorcycles: speed limits, stop signs and yielding for pedestrians. Motorbike riders have to pass a special test and hold a motorcycle licence, their bikes must be registered and they must wear helmets at all times. Special parking is sometimes available but, mostly, motorbikes are restricted by the same rules that apply to cars.
