Nuisance Calls
If you receive harassing or nuisance calls on your home phone on an on-going basis, you should report them to Telecom. If the call is of a threatening or abusive nature, phone the police. The investigation centre (0800 809 806) will follow up. You will need to provide the date, time and nature of the call. It is likely the phone company representative will advise you to keep a log of nuisance calls over a period of time. If they consider the calls a breach of the Telecommunications Act, they will investigate further. You should be aware however, that even if it’s found that a breach has occurred, you will not be given the number of the offending caller. The phone company will deal with the situation on your behalf.
