Maternity Care

Oman labour law allows working mothers to their basic salary, including allowances, for six weeks after the birth. If you have had a caesarean section, you may be granted extra leave depending on your doctor’s recommendation. You are also allowed two hours a day for the hilariously titled ‘milking time’ for the next 12 to 24 weeks, so that you can go home and feed your baby. After these weeks, you will be required to return to work as you did before the birth, unless your doctor has recommended that you take extra time. Paternity leave is at the discretion of your employer, but it is not recognised as a father’s right in Oman. Instead, it is common to take some of your annual leave if you want to spend time with your exhausted wife and new baby.
