Textiles

Historically, Sentier in the 2nd arrondissement has been the centre for textile sales in Paris and today that tradition continues. On rue de Sentier and rue d’Aboukir you will find dozens of boutiques selling an enormous range of fabrics at both wholesale and retail prices. Spread over five storeys, the Marche Pierre in the 18th arrondissement is a great alternative for well-priced textiles; here you will find every possible colour, weave and quality while Bouchara is a more expensive option with a less extensive range. All of these locations offer material for both clothing and interiors, though specialist interior fabric stores do exist; try Dominique Picquier or Angely. When it comes to quality, all boutiques will sell their fabrics with labels stating the material’s content and place of manufacture.

There are dedicated stores for trims and buttons, Entrée des Fournisseurs among them, and at Mokuba you will find literally hundreds of ribbons in every size and colour. Le Rouvray is a quilt shop specialising in fabrics from America and it also offers lessons in quilting.
