However, it is recommended that you get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B, which are common in Singapore. While the island is malaria-free, this is not the case in Batam and Bintan, popular holiday destinations for residents. Also, a dengue fever epidemic recently hit Singapore and as there is no vaccine against this, beware of mosquitoes. Although SARS claimed over 30 lives in 2003, government agencies now have rigorous systems in place to prevent or manage any recurrence.
