Meiji Jingū
A trip to Kyoto is nice but Tokyo has its own slice of spiritual serenity in the heart of the city. Meiji Jingū is a Shintō shrine originally built in 1920 and is one of the city’s most memorable landmarks. No high-rises are visible once inside the grounds and you’ll forget that you’re in a big city. Head here on a weekend and you may spy a traditional Japanese wedding (or ten).
