If you find hotels anonymous and would like more space, more privacy, or simply your own front door key, there are lots of studios and apartments. They can provide a more homely base for families on holiday and are often cheaper and friendlier than hotels for those on short-term work contracts. There is a diverse range of accommodation from serviced hotel apartments to studios on the main canals. Rental periods vary, but anything under three nights is unlikely. The apartments will be fully furnished and are usually converted from residential properties, so do bear in mind that many Amsterdam houses are tall and narrow, with precipitous staircases (and no elevator).
