Gynaecology and obstetrics specialists are found in hospitals, and consultations are only by GP referral. The Dutch have a more relaxed view of childbirth than many other countries and you would normally only visit a gynaecologist or obstetrics department if complications are expected during the pregnancy; otherwise you are in the care of a midwife. However, if you feel more comfortable seeing a gynaecologist during your pregnancy, then request a referral from your GP.
