Dress Code

Berlin is a fairly laid-back place, so there are few rules regarding what you wear. In fact, clothing can even be completely optional in the city’s parks and at the many nearby lakes. Plenty of Germans have absolutely no qualms about sunbathing totally nude in downtown public green spaces, so the prudish should be prepared to see lots of skin.

Otherwise, common sense should rule your wardrobe. Winter can be harsh, so make sure you’ve got a sensible pair of boots and a warm coat handy. During the summer it’s a good idea always to have a light jacket with you, as the city can get cool at night. Also, unlike cinemas in many countries that are freezing cold from air conditioning, Berlin’s movie theatres tend to get quite hot and stuffy, so make sure you can peel off a layer or two.
