Gay & Lesbian
Few cities can compete with Berlin’s gay scene. Beyond the annual Christopher Street Day Parade and the Gay and Lesbian Street Festival, the city has countless bars, clubs and organisations catering to both homosexual men and women. Much of the scene is centred on Schöneberg – however it is by no means limited to that neighbourhood. Attitudes towards gays and lesbian are extremely tolerant, as emphasised by Berlin’s openly homosexual mayor, Klaus Wowereit. Germany recognises civil unions between gay partners, although not yet full marriage.
