Hostels
Jugendherbergen (hostels) aren’t just for the Jugend anymore. People of all ages now make use of this cheap accommodation option, especially as many hostels now offer private rooms along with the typical dormitory bunk beds. Of course, Berlin’s constantly growing selection of hostels generally appeals to the average backpacker and student traveller. Some of Berlin’s oldest hostels are members of Hostelling International (www.hihostels.com), which means they’re all located in what was once West Berlin. The newest hostels in some of the hipper eastern parts of town are independently owned and operated, but are as good as or even better than the HI facilities. A bunk in a dorm will cost you about €15; private room prices start at €35.
