Hotels

In contrast to many big European cities, Berlin is a pretty cheap place to stay. Hotels in the city are often more affordable than comparable accommodation in London, Paris or Rome. If you’re willing to fork out a little more than €100 per night you can often get a room at one of Berlin’s luxury five-star hotels. That said, most of the elite establishments start closer to €200 per night. Of course, the Presidential Suite at the Aldon near the Brandenburg Gate will set you back a cool €8,750 per night – but that naturally includes special security features and your own private sauna.

If you’re sceptical about what all the money is buying, you can check out the German star-rating system at www.hotelsterne.de.

There are still plenty of good hotels in the city’s western districts, and some new ones have been built near Kurfürstendamm. However, much of Berlin’s best accommodation is now centred on Potsdamer Platz and to the east in Mitte.
