Spouses Of Irish Citizens

The process is similar for spouses of Irish citizens as it is for those of non-Irish EU citizens. Although It is not quite as complicated, it may take longer.

The spouse of an Irish citizen can enter with their spouse (be sure to get the relevant visa, if you need one, before you come to Ireland). You will be given a stamp and then need to go to the GNIB office on Burgh Quay with all the relevant documents (see the EU spouse section above). You will either be given your stamp, GNIB card and allowed to stay for at least a year (probably more), with the option to renew this, or you will be asked to apply to the justice department. However, because this is covered under domestic legislation, the queue is longer and your application might not be processed for 18 months. You can always try to get your own work permit or green card.
