Dress Code

Since the temperature in Malaysia is fairly consistent (and hot) throughout the year, light clothing is always preferable. Generally very brief shorts and tiny tops are not appropriate anywhere but on the beach or at a holiday resort. That said, many young women wear mini-skirts and tight jeans. Shorts and T-shirts for men are also common. If you are invited to someone’s home, however, you will want to dress a little more elegantly. Men should eschew T-shirts in favour of shirts with collars and also wear long trousers. If the person who invites you is Muslim, you must dress conservatively. This means sleeves and modest skirts for women and long trousers for men.

Should you go to the highlands, you should take along a light sweater or jacket since the evenings can be cool.
