In Emergency

Kuala Lumpur has the full range of emergency services and they operate much as they do anywhere else.

Like in every big city there is a range of crime in Kuala Lumpur. Physical assault is infrequent, but snatch and grab robberies, pickpocketing, burglaries and walk-up cons are more common. Snatch and grab robbers often use motorcycles, so walk on the side of the street away from the traffic. Otherwise, exercise all the usual precautions that you would anywhere. Police are helpful and polite, but are not able to do much except fill in a report if you are the victim of a snatch and grab or pickpocketing crime. In areas where tourists are common, the tourist police keep a careful eye out for con artists and thieves, but unless what is lost is very big and obvious, you are unlikely to recover stolen property. Be particularly vigilant with credit cards. It is best not to let them out of your sight anywhere. The emergency number for the police is 999. From a mobile phone dial 112.
