Taxi
Taxis are relatively cheap and are a popular option for commuters. The fare is RM2 for the first two kilometres and 10 sen for each further 200 metres. Fares haven’t gone up for several years despite the rising price of fuel, so prices may change soon. Rather than flag down a taxi each morning many people prefer to make an arrangement with a regular taxi driver to pick them up. This can cost more but has the advantage of reliability. Ask around at work to find out if anyone else has a regular taxi – their driver will often be able to put you in touch with someone. You can also chat to the driver of any taxi you use to see if they are interested in taking you to work regularly. During rush hour many taxis will refuse to use the meter and demand inflated fixed prices for journeys. This is illegal but widely practised, and it’s a matter of individual choice whether you get in and pay up or try another cab.
