To fully appreciate the Berlin Wall and the effect it must have had, venture away from Checkpoint Charlie and the Eastside Gallery and explore its mundane twists and turns through random, previously indistinguishable neighbourhoods. The city has turned the 160km long ribbon of the old ‘death strip’ into a leafy bike path.

Many group tours are available for the city portion (10km). Those going solo beware – the course deviates in a few places and the signs are not always easy to spot.
