See Tempelhof Airport

The Nazis built the current 1.2 kilometre-long horseshoe-shaped terminal, which was, at the time, the largest building in Europe and part of Hitler’s monumental scheme for a new capital he was to call ‘Germania’. It was, of course, the landing site of the Berlin Airlift and in October 2008, as a result of a court ruling against a consortium of airlines that sued to keep it operational (it loses millions of euros a year), this landmark airport is history. The southern portion of the S-Bahn offers fantastic views.
